Bailey wants his yard to look

PassageGO TO QUESTION

Read passage carefully and then answer the questions about it. For each question, decide on the basis of the passage which one of the choices best answers the question.

  1. In May, Bailey moved into a new house. His
  2. large, fenced-in yard had potential, but the grass
  3. needed to be weeded and some flowers needed to be
  4. planted. Bailey invited some friends to his house to
  5. help. He provided good music, plenty of snacks,
  6. and cold drinks. Everyone was amazed how much
  7. they were able to accomplish in that one day!
  8. Bailey and Nolan started by weeding the front
  9. yard. Then they planted ferns and marigolds
  10. underneath the olive tree. They planted a bleeding
  11. heart vine and some red impatiens along the front
  12. of the fence. Bailey left plenty of room between the
  13. impatiens for the roses he would plant in the fall.
  14. Janet focused on the side of the back porch. She
  15. filled some holes with dirt, and then she hoed the
  16. ground to make it level. She alternated planting
  17. gardenias and black-eyed Susans. She knew that
  18. gardenia blooms would smell lovely, and the bright
  19. yellow flowers would be pleasing to the eye.
  20. Together these plants made an attractive garden bed.
  21. Meanwhile, Christina and Akiko worked along
  22. the back of the porch. They laid 10 large stepping
  23. stones in even spaces, and in between each stone,
  24. planted red, orange, yellow, and pink purslane
  25. ground cover. They knew that the plants would
  26. grow all around the stones to create a charming
  27. walkway.
  28. Lilia and Nathan cleared weeds along the
  29. whole right-side fence. This was back-breaking
  30. work, but the weeds had to go! Then they planted
  31. red bougainvillea and blue plumbago bushes.
  32. There was still space to plant some smaller
  33. annuals, but Bailey would have to do that
  34. another day.
  35. After hours of work in the hot sun, the friends
  36. were exhausted. They spent the rest of the
  37. afternoon resting, talking, and laughing on the
  38. porch, surrounded by the results of their hard
  39. work. Thanks to the help of so many friends,
  40. Bailey's new house looks loved.
